Repentance and Forgiveness (“Jonah” Week 4 of 4)

We conclude our series on the Book of Jonah today, emphasizing Jonah's struggle with God's compassion and his own misplaced anger, presenting an analogy between Jonah's concern for a plant and God's care for Nineveh. Especially important, there are parallels with Jesus's ministry, highlighting the necessity of genuine repentance for forgiveness, which underscores the challenge that the church faces today in balancing God's acceptance and the need for repentance. God's forgiveness is expansive but not indiscriminate, requiring true remorse, a willingness to change, and a transformative shift in direction towards alignment with God's will. Surrendering to God (“Jonah” Week 3 of 4)

We’ve arrived at Jonah chapter 3 where God again tells Jonah to go and preach to Nineveh. But this time Jonah has a contrite heart, and willingly carries out God’s instructions. In so doing his message captures the heart of the king of Nineveh, he repents, and in turn influences the rest of the city to do likewise, and there is a great revival in the city! Like in times of old, God can use us in powerful ways today when we are willing to obey Him!

The Big Fish (“Jonah” Week 2 of 4)

As we continue this series of messages on Jonah, we turn our attention to the most popular chapter of the book, but unfortunately the most often misquoted. Jonah’s attempt to run from God got him tossed overboard by sailors on the boat he was on, who became imperiled because of Jonah’s defiance of God. Although Jonah deserved his apparent fate, we see God’s mercy as He provided Jonah with a great fish that saved his life. Jonah was thankful, repentant, and obedient, and as a result, God was able to use him in a mighty way, providing a powerful picture of what God is willing to do in your life today!

Trout fishing…a stray dog…and a lesson on trusting God.

I recently got back from a trout fishing trip and came upon a sweet stray dog. Hear how our trying to rescue the dog relates to how God may be trying to rescue us from a lesser way of life.

Running From God (“Jonah” Week 1 of 4)

We begin 2024 with a series of messages from the book of Jonah, most well known for the incredible account of how God used a great fish to get His prophet’s attention. God had instructed Jonah to go and preach repentance to the great city of Nineveh, but Jonah rebelled, got on a ship going in the opposite direction, and ran from God with no intention of doing what He asked him to do. Doesn’t this sound familiar? 
The book is by no means allegorical. Jonah was a real person, a prophet no less, who ignored what God had asked of him. Whether in times of old, or in modern times we can all identify and see ourselves in the text for today!

Neglecting the Word of God (“Shipwrecked” Week 9 of 9)

This is the last Sunday of the year, and the last week in the Shipwrecked series, and in this message Pastor Greg brings us perspective on what he intended to teach us using a story found in 2 Chronicles 34. The people of Israel had forgotten God’s Law and as a result, the nation was in shambles. In a word, shipwrecked. However a priest found the Book of the Law in the temple, brought it to King Josiah, and the king immediately changed the nation’s course so that they followed it. 
We think of ourselves as a Christian nation, because we were founded as one, but we have forgotten God, and as we move into 2024, a potentially turbulent year, it is more important than ever that each of us open His Word and live it out whether the country’s leaders do or not. The messages in the Shipwrecked series were not just for 2023, they are also for 2024, and for all time! Pastor Greg encourages us to take hold of them, go back and review them, and be vigilant to make them a part of our daily lives.

Necessary tools for navigating the new year

Just as there are certain tools necessary to have around the house to handle all the different things that owning a home require of you, so too are there some necessary tools of a spiritual nature needed for everything life will throw at us.
