Bitter people are like porcupines: there are a lot of cool things about them, but they can be hard to be around, and they are certainly hard to stay close to. The interesting thing is that they may not even be wrong, per se: they can be completely justified by their story, ENTIRELY in the right… but the feelings that they carry have changed them as a person, resulting in that painfully prickly exterior. This is not how God has called us to live, and we certainly don’t mean that as an admonishment, but as an encouragement: there is more, there is better, there is fulfillment for the bitter person, and today we want to explore God’s promises around what happens when we trust Him enough to let go.

We have as a society become hyper afraid to offend people we won’t even call those things out that are utterly ridiculous.

You are not alone. The struggle to make it through is sometimes dwarfed by the struggle to even *see* the other side, but you are not alone. In fact, some of the greatest people to ever walk the Earth (David, Elijah, and Jesus) struggled with depression and despair. Of course, their journeys highlight important steps to making it out alive, so today let’s explore what they did and what we can learn from their mighty examples.

We may wonder what Satan looks like. That is not easy to always answer because Satan is a shapeshifter and expert illusionist. At the beginning he took the form of a serpent. What form does he take today and how can we even know?

People often think that this passage means to bear the circumstances before you, i.e. a bad marriage, a job you hate, or a particular health struggle. Jesus means more than those things, though, as evidenced by the verse immediately after this quote, but He also includes another very important instruction: deny yourself. In fact, the whole quote is that one who wishes to follow Jesus must “deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.” We talked about what it means to follow Christ last week, but this week we need to talk about we have to let go to make room for the cross.
Scriptures Today: Mark 8:34-38 // Matthew 26:41 // Romans 7:19-25 // John 3:30 // Galatians 2:20 // Matthew 28:16-20 // Matthew 5:14-16

Why do Catholics have more books in their Old Testament than the Jews have in their Bible or the Protestants have in their Old Testament? It comes down to a disagreement on a series of “hidden books.” We will discuss these hidden books on this episode of God Talk.

Oscar Wilde wrote that “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness,” and if anyone is mediocre, it’s us. Greatness, true greatness, is found in the life of Christ, and today we’re exploring three areas where we can imitate Christ: His leadership, His obedience to the Father, and His trust of the Father. These topics are infinitely deep but we have a limited time, so tune in, take notes, and make changes now!
Scriptures Today: Philippians 2:5 // Ephesians 5:1 // Mark 1:21-22 // Matthew 20:25-28 // Luke 22:39-42 // 1 John 2:15 // Luke 14:33 // Philippians 2:8-11 // Genesis 15:1-6

We have been on a mission for over a year now to talk about all of the aspects of God that we can, even (and especially) the unpopular ones. Today we open the books on a very unpopular topic: ritual animal sacrifice. MANY religions have held this view as standard for millennia, and we have to talk about the importance of THAT blood being shed to really understand the importance of Christ’s blood being shed for us all. We have to go through THAT to get to THIS, and THIS is worth eternity.

If God is love, and God wrapped Himself in flesh to live among us and teach us His way, then we have a perfect example of what Love looks like on earth: feeding the hungry, helping the hurting, sheltering the homeless, and changing lives with the power of the Gospel through the means of love.
